Wrangling at the Ranch

27.12.18 until 2.1.19

Endless choice for holidays in Mexico but full up at that time of year - I was grateful to find a Casita available at RANCHERO LAS CASCADAS , just 1hr north of Mexico City

It was like camp - scheduled activities, communal meals at set times, ended up with the most amazing group of people from all walks - mainly American, and the Mexican/Canadian hosts were awesome and so helpful - we ended up having a blast , even thru the aches and pains of hardcore horseback riding

They were all such great characters, I have nicknames for them to remember them by :  My soul sister the Indie Intuitive Dog Whisperer - she brought the group together with her vivaciousness and generosity of spirit
The Dude and Dudette from California, so sharp and engaging, always up for a great chat
The Miami 1 family of 4, Yoga goddess and Cool Latin husband - the Robinson Crusoes - inspiring adventurers
The Miami 2 family of 4, warm Jewish intellectuals from Boston and Bolivia with grown in college wizz kids ready to take on the world - their 18yr old was discussing rocket science and quantum physics with Joshua !
The Twin Peak Sisters - the mystery Belgian sisters in their 60s living together their entire lives, teaching children, collecting dolls, lucid dreaming ... but what was behind those steely blue eyes and those impecable manners, we all had fun guessing
The Rancher couple from Arizona - real horsemanship and such kindness - with an open invitation to visit them at their ranchette near Sedona one day - noted !
The supercharged Welsh lady -  small and fierce - living there for a long stretch , could drink for her country and was always up for a laugh and full of wit - what a bundle of fire she is
One day I'll write a little story with all their characters ... was a special bonding that took place .

So, the pics below will tell their own story - the best bit was seeing Joshua really come into his own with the group of strangers (a few of the adults were really blown away by him) , with growing in confidence with his horse, and galloping effortlessly by the end of the week ... it all began with a spot of shopping at the local market - where he got  the Wrangler outfit and once in character , he was off working that ranch like a pro !

David too had a go and though he hurt his back - he DID IT - cantoring freely in the rolling cactus plains !
As for me - I have loved horses my whole life and it was bliss to ride all week, to gallop so freely in tiny groups with such experienced wranglers.  Staying in one place and being active was perfect - the rides took us through wetlands, corn fields, hills, woods, streams and waterfalls, culminating in a full day ride with a picnic on a riverbed on new years day

It was the horses that called me - and next week we go to Baja because the whales beckon - maybe thats how we roll with the heart - listen to the call of the wild and respond .
