Medellin - Communa 13

01.02.19

WOW can't believe its February already and its our last day in Colombia !
I have many drafts of blog posts from the past month of travel, as i predicted it will appear non-linear, mainly due to dodgy internet - though i'm assembling them in sort of order by back dating ;0 - does it really matter?
We have enjoyed Medellin and beyond into Antioquia  , this mountainous coffee region full of life, commerce, and a rapidly growing economy... we chose a colourful peublito called Jerico , and for the urban experience we chose Park Llira in El Poblado - more on both soon

In this post I want to introduce Communa 13 because it was so inspiring to see a community that was only recently (prior to 2002) a chaotic dangerous favela (shantytown) and crime capital of Colombia.
Sure there are still plenty of social issues , but its been transformed greatly by investment into infrastructure, street art initiatives, music projects and plenty  of schools
We loved our tour there, and our gondola ride over the whole communa (spread over 3 hills and housing over 150,000)
Here's a sample...
